Irondequoit Crossing Guards Love their Job
Ed Smith and Mary Grace arrive each morning to Dake Junior High School in Irondequoit N.Y. at 7:20am and return in the afternoon with smiles on their faces ready to start and end each student's day with a pleasant gesture. They love their job not only because of the relationships they are able to foster with other guards but because they feed off the energy of their community around them, they are grateful to be able to bear witness to it each day. “This has been the best job I’ve ever had,” says their coordinator Mary Beth Egeling. While student safety is their number one priority, every guard's quirks and personality still shine through while they work.
