Bryan & Amanda

Amanda Miller, 24, is a fourth-year nursing student at St. John Fisher College in Rochester, NY, aspiring to become a nurse practitioner. In order to gain experience, Miller became a direct support aid for Heritage Christian Services, an agency that provides daily support for people living with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Early in the fall of 2022, Amanda was paired with Bryan Newhouse, 43, who lives with Cerebral Palsy, and the pair quickly formed a friendship deeper than what is typically seen between aids and their patients. Amanda spends a few days a week with Bryan, helping him with daily tasks and planning outings to expose him to new activities.
